The Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) will recognize its 50th Anniversary in 2023 and three members of the Elevate Marketing Advisors team, Doug Parker, FSMPS, CPSM, who currently serves as the Society’s president; Jen Newman, FSMPS, CPSM; and Carla Thompson, FSMPS, CPSM, have been selected to serve on a special task force to commemorate the Society for this momentous occasion.
The organization started in 1973 as the Society for Birddoggers (aka the SOBs, which is why they changed the name). SMPS is credited with creating the profession of 'professional services marketing'. Over the past nearly 50 years, thousands of members have come to rely on SMPS for nurturing a unique community of marketers and business developers who support one another and strive to elevate the profession.
SMPS is responsible for shaping and guiding many A/E/C careers, including the two founding principals of Elevate, Parker and Newman. Both have served in numerous local, regional, and national roles. Carla Thompson, FSMPS, CPSM, has also served as president of SMPS Seattle and on the Society board of directors. She is a recipient of the prestigious Weld Coxe Marketing Achievement Award.
